Where no national law has been adopted yet
A directive binds the member states, not employers directly. Until national law is adopted, a private employer generally cannot be held to the directive's new duties, such as pay-gap reporting.
The principle of equal pay for equal work or work of equal value already applies under Article 157 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU and existing national law, and national courts interpret national law in the light of the directive.
The directive itself sets the first reporting deadline for employers with 150 or more workers at 7 June 2027. National laws can add detail or go further, so check your country's rules once they are adopted.
About the sources
For each adopted law we link the official gazette, legislation portal or a public authority's notice; Belgium's partial measures are several regional decrees and are linked to a legal summary instead. Every status was cross-checked against independent transposition trackers. This page is orientation, not legal advice.
